Battery-powered RTU

A sleeping RTU is sized from how often it must wake, how many inputs it reads, and how long until someone can visit. Those numbers come first. The radio comes second.

Facts that change the hardware

Digital inputs that must be counted while asleep are not the same as analog loops that need excitation. Loop-powered sensors change the energy budget.

Uplink burst size matters. A daily 4G session is a different enclosure and battery than a LoRaWAN node that already has a powered gateway elsewhere — if the gateway itself is unpowered, say so.

Send these

  • Visit interval you can actually keep
  • I/O list and whether sensors need excitation
  • Uplink method and messages per day
  • Temperature range at the cabinet

Questions buyers actually ask

Can you promise a five-year battery in the abstract?

No. Autonomy is calculated from I/O, wake interval, radio and temperature after those facts are known.
